Google Pixel 9 Enters the Magnetic Wallet Game: A New Chapter in Smartphone Accessories
The introduction of Apple's MagSafe technology revolutionized the world of smartphone accessories, allowing a variety of innovative products to come to market. Google is now stepping into this space with its own magnetic wallet accessories tailored for the Pixel 9 series. This fresh lineup includes offerings from notable brands like Mous and Case-Mate.
MagSafe Innovation Meets Google
Apple introduced MagSafe a few years ago, creating a new category of smartphone accessories featuring embedded magnets. This innovation led to a surge in products like kickstands, mounts, and magnetic wallets. Now, Google is jumping on the bandwagon with two new magnetic wallets available in the Google Store. However, these wallets only work with the Pixel 9 phones when paired with a compatible case.
Google's Latest Magnetic Wallets
Google's new magnetic wallet accessories are sourced from Mous and Case-Mate. Case-Mate’s wallet, available for $40, features a "Premium Vegan Leather" design capable of holding 2-4 cards. On the other hand, the Mous wallet, priced at $44.99, uses genuine leather and has silicone dots for extra grip, accommodating up to 3 cards.
Compatibility Challenges
Despite their utility, the magnetic wallets are noted as 'compatible with' only when used with specific cases. The Pixel 9 series does not inherently support the Qi2 standard, meaning these accessories need a case to function properly. Google offers several case options to enable magnetic connections, including options from Mous, Case-Mate, and a newcomer, Bellroy, which rejoins the lineup this year.
